Passport is lost, stolen, damaged, or involved in a data breach or scam
You must tell us as soon as possible if your New Zealand passport is lost, stolen or damaged. You can also tell us if your passport was involved in a data breach or scam.
If you do not need a replacement passport straight away, compete the online declaration form.
If you do need a replacement straight away, apply for a new passport using the link below. You will be prompted to declare the passport lost as part of your application.
Replace your NZ passport
If you want to replace your passport straight away, the passport that has been lost, stolen, damaged, or involved in a data breach or scam will be cancelled as part of your application for a new one. You do not need to declare it separately. Use the link below.

If your passport was lost, stolen or damaged, and you do not want to replace your passport straight away, you need to declare it lost, stolen, or damaged immediately. Telling us stops other people using it illegally and helps to protect your identity.
If your passport was lost or stolen, and is valid (not expired), you must also report the loss or theft to the police. You will need to give us the police report reference number.
If your passport has been involved in a data breach or scam, you can continue to use your passport for travel up until the expiry date. You are not required to cancel your passport. If you would prefer to cancel your passport, you can request the cancellation of your passport using the online declaration form. You will also need to return your passport to us for cancellation and destruction.
Declaring your passport as involved in a data breach or scam does not mean you can get a free replacement passport. If your passport has been involved in a data breach, you could contact the affected organisation directly to ask if they will cover the cost of a replacement passport.
